Our history begins in
1924, when John's father, Rocco, and his wife Emmanuella buy a Gulf service
station in Concord, NH to supplement the family income from his job at a local
quarry. In 1929, he begins offering Pontiac automobiles.
In 1939, Rocco adds Desoto
and Plymouth franchises.
As World War II increases
demand for rubber, Rocco establishes a tire retread business in 1941.
In
1948, Rocco obtains the John Deere farm and industrial equipment franchise.
Rocco turns the business over to his son, John, who expands the Pontiac
franchise. The Grappones obtain the AMC/Jeep and Ford franchises.
Allen and Bob join their father, John in the business. From 1968 to
1974, the Grappones acquire Toyota, Subaru, Mazda and Honda
In 1982, The Grappone Companies begin offering Ford heavy trucks.
In
1989, The Grappone Companies adds Suzuki. Allen and Bob take control of the
family business in 1990, and add Saturn in 1991. Grappone operations begin in
Vermont. The Saturn dealership expands to Nashua.
Volkswagen and Hyundai are added in 1995. Bob as sole owner in 1997,
adds Autosure used cars. The business is named NH's largest privately owned
company by NH Business Magazine. Bob and Bev are named NH's "Citizens of
the Year" in 2004.
